Our strategy

The Water Grid Manager's Strategic Plan outlines the medium to long-term strategies, and guides our business. We also produce an annual Operational Plan that guides our short-term business activities and acts as a performance agreement between our Board and the responsible Ministers.

A number of business drivers influence the strategic planning direction for 2010–14:

  • maintaining water security and monitoring quality
  • implementing the South East Queensland water market and building institutional capacity
  • achieving regulatory compliance
  • harnessing technology to work smarter
  • delivering operational efficiency
  • delivering consistent communications.

We are using a ‘balanced scorecard’ approach as a framework for our strategy, to combine management and measurement in an overall quality process of ‘measure, manage, improve and re-measure’. It's an integrated process that combines planning, budgeting and performance management activities.

Based on this approach, our business strategy is built on four priority areas:

  • provision of water security
  • operational efficiency
  • customer and stakeholder satisfaction
  • innovative people and capable culture and systems.

It is these four priority areas, working together, that are the key to our success in delivering our core business.
