Coordinated service delivery

The Water Grid is more than a network of pipelines - it provides a transparent and efficient way of managing South East Queensland’s precious water supply.

Coinciding with the construction of the new infrastructure that links the Water Grid, the Queensland Government has implemented wide-ranging institutional reforms in the water industry to operate the Water Grid as a modern, integrated regional system.

The first phase of the reform, which began on 1 July 2008, established four specialist Government-owned statutory authorities, to manage specific areas of the bulk water supply chain. These statutory authorities manage the storage, treatment, manufacture and transport of bulk water across the region.

The second phase of the reform will create three council-owned businesses to manage the water distribution, wastewater services and billing systems/services to South East Queensland residents and businesses.
